Field Scientist (Belize Marine Project)
Blue Ventures is an award-winning marine conservation organisation dedicated to working with local communities to conserve threatened marine environments. We are currently welcoming applications for the position of Field Scientist to oversee our Belize marine conservation research programme in March 2012. Period: Minimum 10 months Location: Bacalar Chico and Sarteneja, Belize Start date: Late March - Early April 2012 Responsibilities: This position is voluntary and based at our new research site on the coast of Belize. The role of the field scientist involves planning, directing and overseeing all marine, coastal and socio-economic research carried out on site. The role involves working closely with the Project Co-ordinator to initiate and develop research areas, as well as responsibility for collection and collation of data and the analysis and reporting of research results. Field Scientists are also responsible for the development and implementation of the research training programme, teaching and providing assistance to our research volunteers during the comprehensive marine science training periods at the beginning of each volunteer expedition, and working closely with other staff members to disseminate research results and information to relevant parties. Additional duties are shared by all site staff and include support in the day to day running of the project, endorsement of site rules and regulations, and regular communication with research staff in London. Requirements Essential: - Graduate level qualification in Marine ecology, Conservation or other related subject essential, Post-graduate preferred. - Good IT skills - Excellent report writing and analytical skills - The ability to multi-task between ecological and socio-economic roles. - Experience of training and teaching, groups and/or individuals PADI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) and capacity to achieve further PADI qualifications - Experience of field research on coral reefs and related habitats, as well as, of living and working in remote tropical environments (desirable) - Good spoken and written Spanish Desirable: - PADI Open Water Instructor Interested applicants should send a CV and covering letter by email Or alternatively post it to: Field Scientist Job Application Blue Ventures Level 2 Annex - Omnibus Business Centre 39 - 41 North Road London N7 9DP UK
