Aquaculture / Aquatic Technician

Working with a small team of biologists the selected candidate will be directly involved in the various research activities taking place at the research facility, such as:
live-feed production and larval rearing,
nutrition trials with macro and micro-ingredients
testing of health products and functional ingredients
development of new experimental models
RAS technology and related experimental requirements

The technician will also be involved in the routine daily tasks that include: general maintenance and cleaning of the recirculation systems, water quality testing, feeding, etc.

Synopsis of position offered
A position within the AquaBioTech Group has arisen for a suitably qualified person to work as an aquaculture / aquatic technician on a variety of projects within the Groups diverse portfolio.

The primary task requires a person who is highly motivated and prepared to work long hours and rotating shifts at the groups R/D facility with a team of international staff that are based in Malta. The person will be involved in all aspects of the research facility, including live-feed and larval rearing, nutrition and health related trials as well as daily tasks that include general maintenance of the recirculation systems, water quality testing, feeding, etc.

The candidate will also need to work on drafting and preparing standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals and training guides, as well as potentially assisting in the training of foreign staff that come to the R/D facility each year.

On occasion, the Technician may be involved in work related to foreign assignments where the company has been awarded contracts to design, build and operate fish / shrimp hatcheries, farm and recirculation systems. These projects are periodic in nature, but could require placements abroad that vary from a few days to a few weeks.
If assignments abroad are longer than the previously stated period, the staff member would be offered a new working package that is specific to the project and location.

Reporting directly to the R/D Facilities Manager when working in the ABT Innovia facility and to the Installations Manager for foreign assignments, the position is very demanding requiring a person who is highly motivated, methodical and organised. The selected person must be prepared to work to very tight deadlines with a team of international staff. The AquaBioTech Group has also been awarded, and is also seeking to gain more, research projects funded by local government and the EU.

Qualifications Overview
The successful candidate is likely to have a good background in aquaculture and fish husbandry sciences, with at least a Diploma level of education, although experienced B.Sc. graduates in a Biology-related subject are also encouraged to apply. Experience in laboratory operating procedures and GLP is also a bonus, but not essential.
The successful candidate will be offered a medium-term contract with the company that could easily be extended.
The selected candidate will have to speak and write English fluently and knowledge of any other languages, such as Russian and/or Arabic would be considered an asset, although not essential.

The selected candidate must have an EU passport with no travel restrictions or legal convictions and be in possession of a clean driving licence. Applicants must be prepared to travel at short notice as part of international assignments the company is awarded.

The starting gross wage package offered for this position is still to be confirmed, but will reflect the experience the selected candidate brings and the cost of living in Malta. The offer will also include free accommodation, but excludes the cost of water / electricity.
Accommodation is available near the companys facilities and is modern and spacious.

There will be the opportunity for the candidate to earn bonuses that are project specific, individual performance specific and company performance bonuses that are dependent upon the performance of the company as a whole.
